Around Italy, the sea is where many children go to grow up one summer at a time and where the elderly go to find youth for as long as they can. There, love is lost and found and lost again, sometimes before the sun sets. At the sea, people are already living the dreams they seek, freed from their conventional lives, stripped even of their conventional clothes. I am drawn most strongly to photographing Italians at the sea because I find this perennial retreat to be an incubator of fleeting personal dramas that deep down desire to be captured and held.
